SAIMechE in 2012

Compliments of the season to you all.  I trust you have survived another silly season, and by now you are probably back in the swing of things and looking forward to the year ahead.  That's where I find myself and so I thought I would share my wish list with you concerning some of the bigger SAIMechE issues which I hope will see some action in 2012.

At the top of my wish list is to see more SAIMechE members using the SAIMechE web platform for their own benefit...

SAIMechE and Bloodhound SSC

SAIMechE recently hosted yet another successful John Orr Lecture tour. This year the Lecture was delivered by Wing Commander Andy Green, the ‘Fastest Man on Earth’. Wg Cdr Green, Bloodhound SSC's driver, holds the current World Land Speed Record (1227 kph).

Driving the Thrust SSC in 1997, Andy set the world’s first and only supersonic land speed record at an astonishing 763 mph, driving literally ‘faster than a speeding bullet’.

Through SAIMechE, a number of prominent meetings, interviews and presentations were held.

The South African Institution of Mechanical Engineering (SAIMechE) is the senior body representing the discipline of mechanical engineering in South Africa. It covers all fields of application as diverse as automobile, energy generation, process engineering, heavy manufacture, design, management, research, mining and education. The Institution was established in 1892.

The SAIMechE motto is ‘Scientia Progredimur’ - By Knowledge We Advance.

SAIMechE short course events are designed to satisfy the ongoing developmental needs of pracitsing professionals, both as delegates and event presenters.

SAIMechE's training events are a mechanism to benefit all stakeholders: SAIMechE members, the Institution itself, and the general mechanical engineering community.
