WindAc Africa Conference 2017

The WindAc Africa Conference 2017 boasts an impressive line up!

Hosted by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), WindAc Africa is the continent’s premier academic conference focusing on wind power. In its second year it will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, South Africa on 14-15 November 2017.

WindAc Africa was conceived as a sister conference to the well-established annual wind energy conference Windaba. Both conferences are proudly hosted by the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) in collaboration with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC). WindAc offers academics, applied researchers and students a unique forum for knowledge sharing within the sector.

An impressive line-up of 35 speakers has made themselves available for this year’s event with the theme of “Wind Power Without Borders”.

The WindAc team is pleased to announce the following participants:

  • Dr Klaus Skytte, Head of Energy Economics and Regulation at the Technical University of Denmark will talk on the “Regulatory Barriers and Business Opportunities for Wind Power Plants”.
  • Dr Jenny Riesz from Australia is principal market policy development researcher at the Australia Energy Market Operator (AEMO). She will discuss how to manage low inertia in grids and share some lessons learnt from the Australian system black-out event in 2016.
  • Erol Chartan, Expert in power systems simulations and wind power modelling at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will present the “Grid integration Study” performed in collaboration with Eskom and the CSIR in South Africa.
  • Ntombifuthi Ntuli, Principal researcher at the Energy Centre of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will deliver a presentation on “The Co-Benefits of Renewable Energy Deployment in South Africa”.
  • The Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy Systems Technology (IWES) as well as the Flensburg University of applied Sciences, Germany will also participate in the conference presenting on their latest wind research findings.
  • Get shared insights on applied research activities from industry players including Enercon, Globeleq South Africa and Mainstream Renewable Power.

This year’s conference is offering more than 14 hours of high-quality academic discussion along the entire wind-value chain! View the full draft programme and register online at
