The KZN Branch of SAIMechE invites you to attend a technical evening at UKZN

Topic: The Dynamics of Vertical Transportation Systems in Deep Underground and High-Rise Applications

High speed and high capacity lifting installations move heavy payloads and passengers to / from depths in excess of 3000 m and service buildings nearly 1000 m tall. This lecture will describe how the principles and methods of applied mechanics are used to solve practical engineering problems in modern vertical transportation (VT) technologies, from material handling problems in deep underground mines to lift engineering projects in high-rise applications. The lecture will demonstrate how the prediction of dynamic behavior of vertical transportation systems is essential for developing vibration suppression and control strategies, thereby allowing the installation to operate without compromising the structural integrity and safety standards.

Presenter:  Prof Stefan Kaczmarczyk, The University of Northampton, UK

Date: Wednesday, 23 August  2017

Time: 18h00 for 18h30

Place: University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Howard College Campus, Mech Eng Bldg

The presentation will be followed by a light meal.

This is an ideal opportunity to gain new knowledge, network and develop your business connections.
