The SAIMechE Vaal Branch Committee has the pleasure of inviting you to our first event of 2018.
The branch will be hosting an evening Lecture on the topic:

"State of Politics: a perspective for Engineers"

by Theo Venter, political and policy specialist at the NWU. 

Who should attend: Mechanical Engineers / Technologists / Technicians (CPD Points accredited).

A light meal and drinks will be served afterwards, as part of a networking session.

About Theo Venter:
Theo Venter is a political and policy specialist at the NWU School for Business and Governance (SBG) and was previously Special Advisor to two Vice Chancellors of the North West University (2004-2016). In this capacity, he advised on politics and strategy. He is also a political commentator on South African politics in the media, especially on radio and TV since 1987. Theo Venter received the Award as Agriculturalist of the year for the North West for 2015 from the journalists in the agricultural sector. He has been one of the most quoted members of the NWU academic staff in the media from 2011 to 2017. He attended the ANC national conference as resident analyst for Netwerk24 from 16-21 December 2017 and participated daily in newsprint, internet, radio and TV. Early in 2018 he completed a project with Theo Vorster on scenarios and business decisions for KYKNET. 

He teaches a course in the formulation of strategy in the Post Graduate Diploma programme of the NWU Business School. Together with Professor Raymond Parsons they do a monthly blog on YouTube for the SBG. His main research interests are scenario methodology, political change and policy development. Theo Venter was born on 27 November 1955 in Modjadjiskloof (Former Duiwelskloof), Limpopo Province. He grew up in Vanderbijlpark and matriculated in 1973 from the Transvalia High School. He then studied at the Potchefstroom University and obtained a master’s degree in Political Science in 1982. From September 1982 he also studied Political Science as a Fulbright Scholar at the Nelson Rockefeller School for Public Management at State University of New York in Albany, NY.
