SAIMechE Central Branch Mechanical Engineering

Post Graduate Student Conference 2018

Limited seats still available...

Central Branch in conjunction with the participating Universities and Industry is hosting a Mechanical Post Graduate Student Conference. The first SAIMeche Central Branch Post Graduate Student Conference held in November 2017 was a great success, students from the University of the Witwatersrand, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg and University of Pretoria, presented their research papers.

The conference will expose industry and other students to the leading edge post graduate research that is being done at the universities. This will create the opportunity of cooperation between researches and the industry in cases where mutually beneficial work is being done (ownership and patent rights observed). It will also enable the general engineering fraternity the opportunity to expose themselves to current research being conducted at local universities and new developments in mechanical engineering and as such, ensure continual professional development. The conference provides a safe environment for students to hone their professional skills, a skill so important for the industry and to receive feedback from their peers.

Feedback from Rigardt Coetzee: "The Student Conference introduces a platform for all young and innovative researchers across the country to come and present their findings to their peers. A great way to communicate across institutions, faculties and professions. The conference serves as a development beacon to develop the up-and-coming generation of researchers. Training and strengthen the individuals to not just be competitors and leaders of their field in the country, but also preparing them to extend their expertise to international status. I believe a Student Conference is a crucial development experience for all post-graduates, researchers and innovators.".

The conference has varied content that will fulfill the interest of a wide audience. The programme for the day will be as follows:
