With a track record that spans almost 33 years, KITE has established a niche as the region’s largest industrial technology equipment exhibition. The biennial event is an interactive platform from which best practice, cutting-edge technology has seen the light of day.

Visitor surveys conducted over the years indicate the primary reason visitors attend KITE is to source and purchase industrial technology solutions. The ability of the exhibition to provide a forum for active discussion between exhibitors and visitors is one of the key elements in the show’s success.

Hosted at Durban Exhibition Centre from 26 to 28 July, KITE 2017 is set to continue in the tradition of past shows and with only 20% of the planned stand space available now, it is important that companies interested in exhibiting at the event do so as quickly as possible.

Visitor attractions at KITE 2017 will include the Propak Pavilion, the SAIMechE Seminar Theatre, the MESA Special Interest Group entitled  Digital Revolution – Man and/or Machine Rules?  and the Lifting Equipment Association of South Africa (LEEASA) conference.

The workshop will bring together 50 scientists (young and established researchers) and key stakeholders for a dialogue on models of science advice, and promising practices for working at the interface between science and policy, and will form a basis for a network of science advice stakeholders in Africa.

It is coordinated by the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) on behalf of the International Network for Governmental Science Advice (INGSA) which is a newly formed network operating under the aegis of the International Council of Science (ICSU).

This call is open to researchers residing and working on the African continent. Applications meeting the following criteria will be prioritised:

• Have a science background (natural and applied sciences, humanities, social sciences, engineering, health and medical sciences);
• Be affiliated to institutions of higher learning, academies of science, government/ statutory/private research/advisory institutes;
• Demonstrate the policy relevance of their area of research specialisation or professional expertise.

• Brief biography (not more than 400 words);
• Comprehensive CV (including list of publications);
• Motivation letter (this should cover: current contributions to the science-policy interface, reasons to be considered to attend the workshop, and how the lessons learnt from the workshop would be disseminated and would benefit the applicant’s country)

Key conference themes at POWER-GEN Africa 2014 will assess Africa’s potential to deliver next-generation power based on renewable resources, as well as the urgent need to electrify rural areas.

Hydropower, solar and wind power, renewable energy grid integration and alternative generation technologies will be among the focus tracks at the upcoming POWER-GEN Africa 2014 conference – the premier event for the continent’s energy stakeholders.

With the US Power Africa initiative committing US$7 billion to power initiatives across the continent over the next five years, renewed attention is focused on Africa’s ability to significantly increase its power generation capacity to support development. The US initiative aims to support the addition of 10,000 MW of electricity generation capacity to the continent. Individual countries are rapidly investing in additional power generation infrastructures to meet their nation’s goals of moving to industrial and knowledge societies.

Having lagged the world in ensuing affordable, reliable power for all, Africa now has the potential to leapfrog other parts of the world in terms of power generation. Benefiting from the experience of the developed world, the continent is in a position to move directly to power generation based on renewable resources, using advanced technologies to secure and optimise distribution, says PennWell, organisers of the upcoming POWER-GEN Africa 2014 and DistribuTECH Africa 2014 expo and conferences, to be staged in Cape Town from 17 -19 March next year.

The co-located events will present speakers able to assess Africa’s potential to meet future power needs, the renewable resources available to support alternative power generation, and the technologies and strategies that will enable governments and utilities to deliver on the need to underpin modernised economies.

Among the tracks confirmed for the 2014 POWER-GEN Africa conference are:

• Africa’s solar future
• Renewable energy – integration, policy and finance
• Harnessing Africa’s hydropower potential
• A wind powered Africa
• Rural electrification and off-grid renewable energy
• Generators and steam turbines
• Policies and regulations
• Operation, maintenance and plant improvements

POWER-GEN Africa 2014 will bring together key stakeholders from across the continent to assess progress, explore the policies, strategies and resources available to improve capacity; as well as addressing the issues facing existing power plants.

At DistribuTECH Africa, governments, utilities and engineers will assess next generation distribution technologies and strategies in a number of focused tracks.

The organisers of the International Materials Handling Conference (IMHC) invites authors and speakers to submit papers on new developments in the conveying and materials handling industry for Beltcon 17.

Held every two years, the Beltcon Conference isregarded as the leading international forum for presentation of the latest technology, design, research and relevant case studies in conveying.

Submission Criteria

Only papers that meet stringent quality standards are accepted

Papers should contain new and unpublished material

Papers presented elsewhere prior to Beltcon 17 are not eligible

No advertising or commercial publicity to be included

The conference is conducted in English and there are no translation facilities, speakers should thus be proficient in the English language
