SAIMechE Technology Olympiad Press Release

The Directors of the SAIMechE Technology Olympiad have decided that the published events for the 2014 Olympiad will no longer be taking place. The SAIMechE Technology Olympiad has been successfully operating since 1993 relying on donations and sponsorship from industry and public enterprises. We have transformed the organisation so that nearly 90% of the beneficiaries were from poor, black communities.

Unfortunately, the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA), an agency of the Department of Science and Technology operated by the National Research Foundation (NRF) has not processed the payments for 2012 and 2013, nor paid the funds due for 2011.

Under these circumstances the Directors of the SAIMechE Technology Olympiad has no other option than to suspend all the activities of the Technology Olympiad due to a lack of funds. The Directors will take a decision on future Olympiads once the financial matters have been resolved.
