The Council of SAIMechE is very pleased to announce the co-option of Mr. Bob Mills (Hon. FSAIMechE) to Council with immediate effect.

Bob will focus on managing and growing our Company Affiliate membership, with a view to increasing SAIMechE's value proposition in this area.

Bob's impressive network of industry contacts obtained through many years of service in the heavy gearbox industry promises a much improved engagement with our industry partners.

Bob has been a member of SAIMechE since 1969 and has served on the KZN Branch since 1986. On completion of his mechanical engineering studies, Bob received a bursary from SKF Bearing Company and worked for the company before joining Stone Platt International, where he developed the power transmission division for that company.

In the early 1970's, Bob founded Escogear (Pty) Limited - designing, manufacturing and installing large speed reducers (20 - 60 ton) and couplings for the sugar and mining industries, power stations and rubber plants on the African continent. He has had working experience in the above markets/industries for 45 years and has been a Fellow of SAIMechE since 1997. 

In August 2014, he was elected an Honorary Fellow.
