 On Tuesday 4th August 2020, SAIMechE held a virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the first time in its history. The AGM was presented using the Zoom online meeting platform. Meeting attendance peaked at eighty-five persons and sixty-two persons signed the online attendance register.  
 SAIMechE President, Prof Debby Blaine welcomed the attendees on behalf of Council and presented the AGM as per the agenda. 
 During her presentation of the Council report, Prof Blaine spoke to some of the more important information reflecting the position and performance of the Institution over the period 1 May 2019 to 30 April 2020. Council Report
 
 The Council report for the 2019-2020 Council session summarised membership statistics  as follows: 
  Financial statements
 The Institution received an unqualified report from the Accounting Officer confirming that its compliance with the provision of the Constitution relating to financial matters. Key financial indicators are shown below. Total income up 0.3% to R 4 857 448Membership fee income increased by 5.8% to R 4 392 786Total expenditure decreased by 12.6% to R 4 615 488Administrative expenses decreased by 15.5%Operating surplus of R 241 960Net deficit of R 220 559 after investment value adjustmentGeneral reserve decreased by 4.3% to R 4 939 423Good standing with SARS and exempt from income and capital gains taxConcern over increasing outstanding membership fees
 Election of Council members

 Election of Honorary Fellows
 Leading up to the AGM, the Council acted in accordance with the Constitution by unanimously elected Prof. R (Bob) Tait and Prof. JL (Wikus) van Niekerk to the grade of Honorary Fellow.  This was in recognition of the substantial contribution of both to SAIMechE and to the Mechanical Engineering Profession. During the AGM proceedings, Prof Blaine recited the motivations for each of the elections and congratulated both members on this achievement.  Prof Tait and Prof van Niekerk expressed their gratitude for the recognition and for the opportunity to contribute to the greater cause.
 The meeting was CPD validated for 0.1 credits with validation number SAIMechE-1379-08/20.
