Applying for Student membership:

  1. On the SAIMechE website, select “Apply for Membership” on the top of the page, or the Membership menu. 
     
  2. Select "SAIMechE Student membership application” if you are currently studying towards a Mechanical Engineering qualification; then select “Continue”.

  3. On the “Get Connected!” page screen, enter the required information, including the applicable branch. The Branch would be the closest location to where  you are studying.

  4. Read through all instructions and follow the prompts on the Member Information page. Take note of the required fields.

    *Student Card Upload: Your student card is required in order for your application to be approved and finalised, as proof that you are a current student. You can take a photo of your student card to add it to your application.
    *Using a private email is recommended, instead of the email address issued by your tertiary institution. This is helpful when you complete your studies and your student email address changes, so that we are still able to send you important correspondence.

    *Pay particular attention to providing a brief summary of your education and work experience (if applicable) in the box "Education/Experience" - this is important in the assessment process.


  5. Once you have completed the fields on this screen, Accept the terms at the bottom, then select “Submit”.

  6. You should receive an email notification confirming receipt of your application, followed by email updates on the status of your application.

  7. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive further emails prompting you to upload your student card to your profile, if you have not provided this during the application process. This is required in order for your application to be approved and finalised.

    *Sign in to the SAIMechE website with the username and password created during registration to access your profile, and upload your student card to your File Library if not previously provided. Simply take a photo of your student card using your cell phone and then upload it to your profile on our site, or email it to membership@saimeche.org.za.

  8. Allow a few days for your application to be finalised once your  student card has been provided).
